White Rock Chapter is located 35 miles north of Crownpoint within the Eastern Navajo Agency. The area is a very remote part of the Navajo Nation. The chapter land extend east into the "checkerboard" area and west into the Navajo Reservation. Most of the chapter area is in San Juan County and a smaller portion in McKinley County. The Navajo name Tse' ligaii is in reference to a nearby mesa which is an earth tone white. The mesa is considered sacred and has been included in traditional Navajo Chants.
The White Rock Chapter conducts monthly meetings to keep residents informed; residents have a forum to express their opinions to their Navajo Nation Council Delegate or to decide on matters concerning their chapter.
Upcoming Chapter Meetings:
- 05/15/080-1pm-SPECIAL MEETING FOR SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT-Plan projects for youth. Parents & youth participation needed. Applications will also be accepted.
The community has a lot of coal, which the local people rely on for heating fuel. Due to the remoteness of the community, the chapter experiences difficulty with development efforts. In 1990, the chapter finally received power line extensions and electricity. The "Checkerboard" area always involves jurisdictional
problems. Many of the governmental services are shared with the nearby Lake Valley Chapter.
"Servicing the Governmental Needs of the White Rock Chapter Residents".
